Review
TubeHunter Ultra is a web video downloader for Windows. Unlike other downloaders, this tool doesn't ask you to paste a URL or to search videos using a search engine within the application. Instead, it installs some sort of video capture driver that detects when a video is being played on your web browsers, and a window pops up asking if you want to download the video.
The free trial of this application doesn't allow you to download the videos without conversion. It is a weird limitation, I think. When you download a video, you have to select what format you want it converted to. I found that after selecting a format and downloading a video, all video downloads from that moment on would use the same format, regardless of what format you chose. This must be a bug. Restarting the app allowed me to choose another format.
The good thing about TubeHunter Ultra is that you are not limited to YouTube or Google Videos. There is a list of supported websites, but, in theory, any website that plays video on your browser should be supported.
Another thing that I did not like about this app (or maybe it is a trial thing) is that the window kept on popping up even after the download started. Whenever I went back to the browser and clicked on the website, the video download window would pop-up.
Performance-wise, TubeHunter Ultra did a great job of downloading videos and converting them. If it was a little less intrusive it would be great! |
